A group of cyclists rode into Leeds United’s Elland Road on Saturday evening as they completed the first day of the demanding Speed Cycle challenge.
Watch the video below as the riders reflect on a gruelling day of cycling.
The group are honouring the memory of former Everton skipper Gary Speed and raising funds for the People’s Place – Everton in the Community’s groundbreaking mental health campaign.
The group rode a total of 114 miles, having set off from St James’ Park – home of Newcastle United – at 6am.
On Sunday they will cycle to Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane and Bolton Wanderers’ University of Bolton Stadium as they stop off at each club Speed played for. The challenge will finish at Goodison Park, with the participants expected to arrive at the Grand Old Lady at around 6.30pm.
The group are aiming to raise a total of £65,000, which equates to £1,000 for each appearance boyhood Evertonian Speed made for his beloved Blues.
